The World Toilet Organization (WTO) is a global non-profit organization committed to improving toilet and sanitation conditions worldwide. WTO focuses on toilets instead of water, which receives more attention and resources under the common subject of sanitation. The World Toilet Organization was established with the aim to break the taboo around toilets and the sanitation crisis. Since 2001, they have lobbied governments, public and private sector stakeholders and the international community to prioritize sanitation in the development agenda. In late 2011, World Toilet Organization established its SaniShop model in India to increase access of rural households to safe and affordable sanitation. On the ground, we work closely with our local implementing partners eKutir, a social business, based out of Odisha, and Sattva, a media and social business consulting firm based out of Bangalore.
