Thematic area:
Established in 1919, the Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT) is one of the oldest philanthropic institutions in India, and has played a pioneering role in changing traditional ideas of charity. Together with the Navajbai Ratan Tata Trust, SRTT seeks to be a catalyst in development through giving grants to institutions in various areas. They focus their grants towards organisations that they can partner to undertake innovative and sustained initiatives with the potential to make a visible difference. They also provide grants for endowments, have a separate programme for small grants and give grants to individuals for education and medical relief. The bulk of the trusts' institutional grants are in the areas of rural livelihoods and communities, and education.
